Many of you have already heard about the new book of Mother Teresa's writings. If not, one article is available at:

In spite of what the popular press is saying about her darkness, I marvel at how much faith she showed in following Jesus day after day even when she felt she was getting no feedback from Jesus.
How are others seeing this?

I'm hesitant to comment, since I haven't read the book...but I will anyway!
Definitely, it is a marvel. It's an amazing witness that she could persevere with a lack of any felt consolation for so long. It definitely puts her "we are not called to be successful, we are called to be faithful" in even starker relief.
I do wonder about a couple of things. I know that when I personally feel pretty bleak, THAT'S often when I journal, not when I am peaceful and joyful. I don't claim to be Mother Teresa (!) but I wonder if the darkness was quite as dark as the pieced together letters claim. I just don't know without reading the book yet.
The other things is that Christopher Hitchens' commentary on this (his article in Newsweek) is driving me nuts. Loss of the experience of God's consolations is not losing faith. If faith is based entirely in experience, then it isn't faith, right?
